Cath Chronicles

I am sharing this first-hand account, after being witness to a perfect example of the effective teamwork in health-care delivery at Universal Hospitals which resulted in enhanced health outcome and quality of patient care.
THE DATE:
July 3, 2017
THE SETTINGS:
CathLab, Universal Hospitals.
THE TEAM:
Department of Cardiology – Dr. Koshy, Dr. Shanavas, Dr. Tanveer, Mr. Jibin (RN), Mr. Prakash (Senior CathLab tech), Mr. Anjenayalu (CathLab tech) and Ms. Preema (CathLab tech).
THE CASE:
A 61-year-old male patient complaining of left-sided chest pain and retrosternal heaviness for 2 days with past history of ischemic heart disease, hypertension, dyslipidemia and diabetes mellitus who had prior acute inferior wall MI in August 2016.
With the patient on the CathLab table and angiography in progress by Dr. Shanavas, a mid 100% chronic total occlusion of the left anterior descending (LAD) was found.  With extreme difficulty being encountered to cross the occlusion, Dr. Koshy scrubbed into the case, and Dr. Tanveer was also present.  What followed was a classic demonstration of the highest quality of teamwork and commitment to provide the best possible results to the patient.  After multiple concerted attempts, the LAD lesion was successfully crossed and at the end of the case the patient had TIMI III flow restored..... a brand new lease of life !!!
The happiness the team exhibited after the case was indeed a joy to see and be a party to…… it was a Celebration of Wellness…..the true spirit at Universal!!!
