Mitral Valve Repair @Universal

The heart is the body's main life house, and it is important to keep it healthy and damage-free.
Dr. Nabil Kharma, Consultant in Cardiothoracic Surgery, speaks about the Cardiac and Cardiothoracic surgeries that are practiced in Universal Hospital one of which is a Cardiothoracic Procedure rarely done around the world: Mitral Valve Repair Surgery.

The mitral valve is located between the pumping chambers of the heart: the left atrium and the left ventricle. It is responsible for controlling the blood flow through the heart. Mitral valve surgery is done to either repair or replace the mitral valve in your heart if it is hardened or calcified, preventing the blood from moving forward or if its too loose causing the blood to flow backwards.

According to Dr. Nabil, mitral valve repairs last longer, if not the same as mitral valve replacements. He also compared the two procedures stating that replacement would require a lifetime of follow-ups and maintenance while with repairs, the valve would be presuming back to the natural state. Also, with mini-invasive surgeries where only small incisions are made, the patient would recover faster with less pain.
